The Aurora and Smoking Hills: September 2, 2026
At about 3:10 am, the PA in all our rooms announced that the Aurora could be seen on the starboard side. Fred said it was faint, but it was visible. I got out on the balcony and took my first photo at 3:12am, but as I was trying to figure out the right exposure, focus in the dark, remember that the ship is moving and I don't have a tripod, those first photos weren't so good. Also, there was still ambient light from the sunset. What I saw with my eyes was something like smoke

Bellot Strait, Canada: August 26, 2026
Bellot Strait is 25 km/15.5 mi long and 2 km/1.2 mi wide at its narrowest point. It will take about 1.5 hours to pass through. The most northerly point of continental North America is in this passage (71°58’N 94°57’W). The tide through the passage is tricky and while in the past several ships tried it, it wasn’t until 1937 that the Aklavik, a Hudson's Bay Company boat, successfully sailed through the passage.
