Itilleq has just 89 residents. The main industry is fishing, and they have a small fish processing plant in the long blue building near the water. There is a school and a helicopter pad.

The settlement had arranged a Kaffemik for us all. This is a traditional event where people are welcomed into homes for food and hot drinks.Once tendered to shore we were told to match a color square to a sign on a house that had the same color. That search took us all over the community until we finally located a vivid blue home belonging to Paulina and her husband Therkil. They hosted us for coffee, tea, and cake and showed us videos of Itilleq through the seasons. Their bird flitted around the rooms as we enjoyed the company of its persons. Therkil had shot a reindeer just three days prior.

Reindeer season opened August 1. The visible evidence suggested that so far the hunters had been successful.

The church was lovely. The painting at the altar really captured a dark, cold night in the arctic.

The homes in Itilleq were just gorgeous with all their many colors and the weather was perfect.

The afternoon ended with a fun football match between the Itilleq Adventurers and passengers and crew of the Nansen. The photos below show the final goal by Itilleq. The match was tied at 2-2. This was the third year of this match. In the two prior years, each side had a win.
